Our Story

New York City-based Hat Rabbit Studio was founded in 2013 by partners Robyn Coffey and Aaron Hartnett, who met while working as artisans in the studio of world-renowned, Emmy Award-winning puppet designer Michael Curry in Portland, Oregon. Together, we have more than 20 years of experience in theatrical stagecraft.

Aaron graduated from Lewis and Clark College in Portland in 2002 with a Bachelor's degree in foreign languages and a minor in theater. With Michael Curry Design, he traveled Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, designing puppets skeletons, installing new shows, training performers, and working with acclaimed producers, directors, and choreographers.

Robyn received her Bachelor's degree in fashion design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2007. She spent several seasons in New York City working under six-time Tony Award-winning Broadway costume designer William Ivey Long before accepting a position in the soft goods department at Michael Curry Design, where she specialized in project design, innovative fabrication, and emerging materials.

Hat Rabbit is honored to work with a rotating cast of extremely talented artists who lend their skills to the creation of one-of-a-kind pieces at Hat Rabbit Studio.
